Yeah, reactions can be priceless, in a horrifying sort of way. Stuff fandom takes as fact is often completely contradictory to what mainstream society thinks -- the idea that most people are a little racist, for example. It seems to be accepted in fandom but if I suggest it irl everyone's like COLORBLIND THO and I AM NOT THE KKK YOU HAVE GREATLY OFFENDED ME. Did people react like that in your media class? (That's how people always react to me saying it, idk if it's different in other cases.)

And I'm always so surprised, too. It can be a weird kind of culture shock, sort of. Maybe I spend too much time in fandom.

Hah, good for you tho! I've given up correcting him because he'll just rant about how it's SO MUCH WORSE in arabic countries and Western society is superior and do you know the Japanese ate their prisoners in WWII? ffffuuuuuu, WHAT IS LIFE indeed.
