cornhobble: (.Dumbledore - Fabulous!)
So I've just finished rereading the last three books of the Harry Potter series, something I've been meaning to do for a while. This is the first time I've gotten to read them all knowing how everything turns out.

I have so much more appreciation for Dumbledore (and Snape) now. Dumbledore is just SUCH A GREAT CHARACTER, manipulative and secretive but at the same time good and always willing to give people a second chance. He's also in the habit of wearing ~flamboyantly-cut purple suits~, which says great things about his sense of style, imo. :DDD

And Snape is like the most emo and misunderstood dude in the entire series. I can't help but appreciate that kind of drama, okay. See this line, after Snape killed Dumbledore and Harry called him a coward:

"'DON'T --" screamed Snape, and his face was suddenly demented, inhuman, as though he was in as much pain as the yelping, howling dog stuck in the burning house behind him -- "CALL ME COWARD!"

;___; YOU GUYS. I've never been really crazy about Snape, but THIS LINE IS SO TRAGIC. I would hug you, Snape, but you'd probably hex me and then I'd get grease on my shirt or something.

The Ginny/Harry and Tonks/Lupin is just as annoying on the reread. Tonks is my FAVORITE, with her pink hair and clumsiness and humor, and I am still displeased about what J.K. Rowling did to her character to get her with Lupin. >:[ Angst is okay, but HER ENTIRE STORYLINE basically evolves around her pining for a guy. Gross.

I feel like Tonks/Ginny would have been the better pairing, y/y/mfy? They would have been sharp and funny and had amazing hair together. ♥__♥

this icon is incredibly inappropriate, considering the content of this post, but it is my ONLY HARRY POTTER ICON so it will have to do.

I love it when you go to the library and the librarians are all excited by your book choice, ahahaha. We've got a new librarian at the library nearby -- at least, I've never seen her before -- and she was apparently thrilled by my copy of Slaughterhouse Five. She talked a bit and was kind of weird and quirky, but not in a bad way. I was totally charmed, ngl. :]

Onto the actual book -- I've never read Vonnegut before, but I really like his style. It's interesting and kind of funny. I plan on reading the next few chapters later on today~~

I just took a nap (MMMMM, NAP) and am unreasonably cheerful today, lol. It was probably the good book + nap combination, I haven't done that in a while. Now I'm off to go eat chocolate and watch the episode of SPN I have Tivo'd (Sex and Violence, yeaaaaah).

I just started reading Lolita today. The narrator is so creeeeepy. He makes me feel creepy by association. :( But I'm interested so I shall continue reading.

I've always wanted to read it because, well. Controversy attracts, yo. Also, banned book lists are seriously dumb. In actuality they double as handy Must-Read lists. "Oh, you don't want me to read that book? WELL, I GUESS I'LL JUST WANDER OVER TO THE BOOKSTORE AND PICK A COPY UP~~~"

Holy shit, you guys. You know when you're reading a book and something so unexpected happens it's kind of like someone just punched you in the side of the head? I just finished the book Affinity by Sarah Waters, and that's really the only way to describe the ~experience. REELING. :O But, you know, in a good way.

Really good book, man. I won't say more, I don't want to ~spoil anyone. That said -- omg, I don't even know what to do with myself now that I'm finished, asdfkl;ajsdlkfjf.

This is the second book of hers I've read -- Fingersmith was the first. I think, if I were to compare the two, I like Fingersmith better, but they were both amazingly plotted.

This isn't much of a review at all, but seriously, consider picking up one of her books sometimes (I'd go for Fingersmith~). Well-written, well-plotted historical novels with lesbian main characters. WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE? :D
